CONTEST RESULTS
In seemingly a blink, the Digital Shootout's end is upon us. Week's end means contest and results, and saying sad goodbyes to old friends, and new friends just made. For our friendly competition, we received nearly 500 still images and 15 videos to judge, based on the criteria, "Would I hang this image on my wall?" and "Would I share this video with my friends and family?". Judging a contest can be arduous work, often with many disagreements. Our judges - Berkley White, Sterling Zumbrunn, Erin Quigley, Mary Lynn Price and Dan Baldocchi - thumb wrestled for their favorites, which are showcased below. Congratulations!
Rounds of applause and standing-o's go out to all of the participants of this year's Digital Shootout! Never before have we seen such a passionate and motivated group of image makers. We were truly impressed by all of your efforts, which in turn motivated the staff to go diving and make some art as well. So, we the staff of the Digital Shootout, give our heartfelt thanks to you for making it such a successful, memorable and fun week! We hope to see you all next year at the 2014 Digital Shootout in Little Cayman.
The Shootout has been held at the Divi Flamingo Dive Resort in Bonaire for more years than any other resort. The reason we keep returning is not because of the spectacular diving, but because of Divi's Dive Center Manager, Serge De Groote, and his entire crew. Every Shootout, they tirelessly re-arrange their normal schedules and routines to accommodate our group, to show us the best diving the island has to offer. And all done with big smiles on their faces. The Digital Shootout would not nearly be the same experience without the efforts of Serge and his team. THANK YOU! MASHA DANKI! MUCHAS GRACIAS! WINNER - JIM WATT AWARD
Jim Watt was more than a friend to the Shootout. He was a living example of our mission statement. Jim was one of the first professional underwater photographers to adopt digital photography and was thrilled to share all his shooting secrets with first time shooters or fellow professional photographers. His passion and skill in creating new images was infectious and inspired hundreds of Digital Shootout guests over the years. Our Best of Show image is honored with the Jim Watt Award of excellence.
