GEAR TESTS: Canon 1 DC

For the last three Digital Shootouts, I've shot primarily 4K Video with Canon 1DC in the Nauticam Housing for the Canon 1DC. I also am using the Zen 230mm Superdome by Zen Underwater. The housing is still holding up really well and the amazing glass of the Zen dome allows for versatile wide angle shooting.

Getting to this year's Digital Shootout in Roatan a week early allowed for some additional shooting of all of the amazing wrecks, walls, and critters Roatan has to offer. The above video was shot in 4K and resized for Vimeo. Most of the clips were shot either with the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM Lens or with the addition of the Kenko 1.4 Pro Teleconverter to this lens.

After three years of shooting this system, I am still deeply impressed by the beautifully accurate Canon white balance, wide assortment of coveted Canon glass, and the True 4K video I am able to capture during an assignment.

On the same dive, I can be focused primarily on shooting 4K video and then, if the opportunity presents itself take some still captures. For all still captures, I used either available light or continuous video lighting rather than strobes.
