Being able to dive and shoot with the Pegasus Thruster is one of my favorite parts of the Digital Shootout, and I don't just say that because I love all things jetpack-related. This tank-mounted scooter is an awesome asset for the underwater photographer and videographer, because it opens up new shooting opportunities by enhancing your mobility and stability. You can take advantage of the mobility that the Pegasus offers by covering more ground at your dive site while using less air, providing you with more bottom time to either locate or keep up with your subject. I found that while shooting video it gave me the advantage of a constant rate of speed and smoother motion than kicking could ever provide, so the footage turned out much more stable and graceful than a standard swim-by shot could.

Installing and using the Pegasus Thruster was surprisingly simple. It is only about 5 pounds negative and uses a simple cam-strap tank mount, so literally all I had to do was drop some lead and close a strap and I was ready to connect the Thruster to my tank. The Thruster itself mounts using a basic latch and locking pin, yet it's super stable and not likely to fail. The device is controlled by a hand-held, single button controller, which enables you to throttle the Thruster and still have total mobility and control of your body while diving with it. This allows for ease of camera operation and avoids any encumbrance or gear getting in your way when not using the Thruster on your dive.

After seeing the advantages and improvement that a Pegasus Thruster can offer the underwater shooter, I'm convinced to keep one in my kit for future shooting opportunities!

This is the second time I've tried the Pegasus Thruster and not only is it a blast to use underwater, it serves multiple purposes. I tried it out at the Digital Shootout in Little Cayman for the first time in 2016 and my intention was to shoot photos and video while navigating the reef. After a few minutes in the water, I was having so much fun I decided to ditch the camera and just explore the reef. My buddy and I were both using the Pegasus Thruster and were able to explore multiple dive sites on one dive.

It was great to be able to see so much on a one-tank dive while cruising in sync with turtles and sharks.

Pegasus Thruster - It's Fun and Functional by Becca Hurley Scuba Diving Magazine/Sport Diver Magazine

I used the Pegasus Thruster for a second time at the DSO in Bonaire this year, with the goal of shooting video on the Hilma Hooker wreck dive. I was able to circle the wreck multiple times while filming. The tank-mounted system is a blessing for underwater photographers, you are practically hands free and it's easy to stop and go if you need to set-up a shot.

Whether you are a photographer or recreational diver, I'd highly recommend giving the Pegasus Thruster a try — it's fun and functional!
