GEAR TESTS: OM SYSTEM OM-1 Mark II UNDERWATER CAMERA REVIEW
I really enjoyed using the OM Systems OM-1 Mark II camera and was the most fun I have had with a camera for a while. Every photo I took with this camera was incredibly sharp, which is not surprising given the use of Olympus lenses like the 8mm fisheye and 90mm macro. However, it wasn’t just the quality of the optics that impressed me. The autofocus and tracking capabilities of this camera are some of the best I’ve ever experienced. I found it easy to track my subjects, even when they were moving quickly, and the OM-1 Mark II consistently kept them in focus.
I just did a couple of macro dives this year with the updated OM-1 Mark II. I can say that this is one of if not the best mirrorless macro cameras on the market. With a choice of 60mm and 90mm macro lenses and incredibly fast and sticky like glue autofocus tracking, it is easier to get the shot than just about anything out there. The 60mm is good for general macro and has more flexibility with subject size. The 90mm takes small and supermacro shooting to another level. With the longer focal length, it gives more working distance for skittish critters. Another great feature is the ability to do 2:1 supermacro without the need for an external wet lens diopter. This keeps the focus fast and accurate and easier. A diopter can be added if needed for going crazy small.
