The OM System TG-7 is a rugged point-and-shoot camera, ideal for beginners interested in underwater photography. While it received a minor design update from the previous TG-6, the core functionalities remain excellent, especially for macro shooting.

Paired with a well-designed OM System brand underwater housing and the Backscatter Wide Double Handle Tray and Arch with the UWL-M52 Wide angle lens, the OM System TG-7 transforms into a versatile underwater camera. This setup allows for quick switching between macro and wide-angle modes, perfect for shooters who encounter diverse subjects on a single dive.

Despite its limitations (lack of manual control, struggles to white balance beyond 40 feet), the TG-7 remains a champion for capturing stunning close-up underwater images at an exceptional price point. It pairs well with strobes like the Backscatter Hybrid Flashes for wide angle or the Mini Flash 2, which can both be used in SC mode for accurate TTL exposure. While the TG-7 lacks true manual controls and might struggle with underwater white balance in some situations, it’s an excellent choice for beginners to step into the world of underwater photography.
