GEAR TESTS: Backscatter Macro Wide 4300 Video Light Underwater Review
ROBIN DODD Producer |
This is my new go-to light for everything. The Backscatter Macro Wide 4300 Video Light packs an incredible amount of brightness into a light that fits in the palm of your hand. When shooting wide angle I switched it to the wide mode for a large beam that could easily light my entire subject. When shooting macro or searching for points of interest I would switch it to the macro mode to put all of that light power into a concentrated beam that fit tiny subjects right in front of my lens. During night dives I took advantage of the red mode to be able to search for scenes without attracting the attention of the entire food chain. I also used one of these lights in the beacon mode to mark my entry and exit point on a night dive from shore so I could easily find my way back the way I came. When I needed to grab the attention of my buddy from some distance away I could use the alert mode to emit a rapid-fire burst of light that immediately caught their eye. Whether using this light mounted on my camera rig, as a beacon, or on a handheld grip to use as a general dive light, the Backscatter Macro Wide 4300 was a part of my kit on almost every single dive during this trip.
