GEAR TESTS: Nauticam EMWL Extended Macro Wide Lens Underwater Review

I was very excited to use for the first time the Nauticam EMWL relay lens during the Digital Shootout. This Extended Macro Wide Lens allows me to shoot macro wide-angle images, which means that it puts us on the tiny animals' perspective. It's a whole new way to tell stories and multiplies our creative possibilities. I used it paired with the Canon 100mm and the Canon R5C and had some fun shooting blennies. It has three different objective lenses, 130º, 100º and 60º angle-of-view, that can be exchanged underwater. This gave me a lot of flexibility to get different frames for my video stories.

The images were very sharp, had good contrast and the R5C autofocus worked extremely well with the EMWL. As I always say in my seminars, it made it easier to get more elements for a story, like wide, medium and close ups of the same subject, something that before was very hard to do and demanded moving the camera a lot. With the EMWL I had the camera set on a tripod and the only thing I needed to do was to change the objective lens and shoot. The EMWL is now part of my arsenal and I can't wait to tell more stories of this amazing underwater tiny world.
